Start before you have the word

Plenty of people book a first session without knowing what to call what they're feeling. That is a fine place to start, and Jamal won't ask you to pick.

You might feel drawn to someone and not know what it means. You might feel your gender doesn't fit and not know what comes next. You might have an answer that changes with the week. Therapy here doesn't need any of that sorted out first.

You don't have to bring

  • A word for your sexuality or gender

  • A decision about who to tell

  • A reason that sounds good enough

  • Certainty of any kind

What Jamal does instead

  • Follows your words

If you say “queer” one week and “not sure” the next, that is what he uses.

  • Asks, doesn't assume

Your name, your pronouns and who matters to you come from you, not from a guess.

  • Lets answers stay open

An answer you give in session is one you can change next time.

Three questions people have about this

What if I'm not sure I'm LGBTQ+ at all?

Then you are who this practice is for. Questioning means exactly that, and you can come to find out the answer is none of the above.

Do I have to tell Jamal my identity at the start?

No. The contact form doesn't ask, and neither does Jamal. You say what you want to say, when you want to say it.

What if my answer changes?

Then it changes. Sessions follow you, and nothing you said earlier holds you to it.

When you're ready, or before

A message is all it takes. You can ask a question first, with nothing booked.
